Pre-fabricated wall panels are super easy to install and can add so much instant value at a very low cost. I tried my hand at wainscoting on this litle area of the boys’ bathroom. The entire project only took about an hour but the look of it makes it seem like I hired a professional 😉

What you will need

  1. White Wainscot Wall Panel
  2. Liquid Nails Glue
  3. Baseboard Moulding  or other trim piece for the top
  4. Nail gun + Finishing Nails
  5. White Silicone Caulk
  6. White Paint (I matched our baseboards with Sherwin Williams Extra White)

Step 1: Measure

Because the panel would be going next to the door frame, I didn’t want it to stick out more than that. I made sure to measure the depth of the doorframe and selected a wainscot panel that was thin enough. I measured the width and height and headed to the store to grab my materials. I had my two pieces trimmed to size there, which was the panel and the moulding.

Step 2: Glue

Add the Liquid Nails glue to the back of the wall panel liberally. Place on the wall and support it using clamps, if possible. I propped up a couple of stools against it to keep it from moving.

Step 3: Nail

Using the nail gun, I added just three nails to each side of the panel, with the exception of the bottom side that sat against the baseboard, purely for cosmetic reasons.

Once the nails were in place, I repeated the process with the moulding top piece – glue, place, then finishing nails. You can see where the two nails went on the board in this picture.

Step 4: Caulk

To give it a finished look (and in case of a small gap) you’ll want to caulk the edges. I simply squeezed the caulk along the edges, and used my finger to smooth it out. I’m pretty happy with the seamless look it gave, especially along the tub tile.

Step 5: Paint

I chose to match the baseboards with my paint and the fact that the board and trim piece were pre-painted made painting a lot faster!

In the end, I love how the little detail on the wall, combined with some new pretty wooden hooks, add so much character and beauty, even for some messy, little boys!
